Retour Research - When disruptive behaviors challenge care
When care faces problematic behaviors
The issue of the patient “behaviour” is problematic in many care settings today. In childhood as in geriatrics or adult psychiatry, in institutions or on an outpatient context, behaviors are qualified as “disorders”, as “agitation”, or as “inappropriate behaviors” among others. These categories refer to disruptions in the care relationship. The order of interactions between patients and professionals is disrupted by unexpected, disturbing gestures or words, forms of violence or rejection of care.
