Álvaro Jiménez is a post-doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Medicine (MIDAP) and the Faculty of Social Sciences (LaPSoS) at Chile University. His research articulates clinical psychology, mental health sociology and medical anthropology, focusing on the sociocultural dimensions of “mental” symptoms. His PhD research in sociology (Cermes3, Université Paris Descartes) was a comparative study on self-harm (attempted suicide and self-injury without suicide) among Chilean and French teenagers. Álvaro is also a founder member of Platform for Social Research on Mental Health in Latin America (PLASMA).
